Angang Steel Company Limited (Ansteel) is a listed joint-stock company established in 1997. It is majority-owned by the state-controlled Anshan Iron and Steel Group (Ansteel Group) under the supervision of China’s State Council.

The company is commonly referred to as Ansteel, and it stands as the second-largest steelmaker in mainland China.
2. Headquarters & Production

Headquartered in Anshan, Liaoning Province, Angang was formed when Anshan Iron & Steel integrated its divisions for cold rolling, wire rods, and thick plates.

Its parent group, Ansteel, has a gross annual steel production capacity of around 39 million tons, making it one of China’s steel giants.
3. Product Portfolio
Angang produces a wide variety of steel products:
- Hot-rolled coil: Widely used in the automotive, shipbuilding, machinery manufacturing, bridge construction, and other industries.
- Cold-rolled coil: Primarily used in applications with high surface requirements, such as automotive body panels and home appliance panels.
- Galvanized sheet: Features excellent corrosion resistance and is used in automotive, home appliance, and construction applications.
- Color-coated sheet: Used in building roofs and walls.
- Medium and heavy plate: Used in shipbuilding, bridges, pressure vessels, and large steel structures.
- Wire rod: Used in construction and metal products.
- Seamless steel pipe: Used in the petroleum, petrochemical, and mechanical processing industries.
- Specialty steel products: High-tech products such as high-speed rails and high-end electrical steel.
Industry certifications include ISO9002, ISO14000, CE, certifications from multiple international ship classification societies, and API certification for oil-pipe-grade steel.
4. Technological Enhancements & Strategic Partnerships

In April 2025, Angang completed a comprehensive modernization of its 3.8-meter plate mill in Bayuquan, Liaoning, in collaboration with Primetals Technologies. This upgrade introduced full automation (Level 1 and 2), a process camera system, and a human–machine interface (HMI), enabling production of high-performance steels—including X60MO subsea pipeline steel—and thinner plates down to 5 mm.

In a 2013 joint venture with Kobe Steel, Angang formed Kobelco Angang Auto Steel, with a production capacity of 600,000 tons per year of advanced cold-rolled high-strength automotive steel (590 MPa tensile strength and above). Angang holds 51% of the venture.
